Tile and Grout Cleaning Terminology

The tile and grout cleaning business is constantly growing as I write this article. It is because it is such a lucrative business that is lined up with the cleaning and maintenance industry. Restoring the look of your tiles from its original state is not anymore a daunting site for homeowners as there are professionals to do the job for you. This article is written to equip us with the common terms of tile and grout cleaning.

Tiles are great as flooring finish because of its durability and sheen (for ceramic tiles). They are often used for high traffic areas because of their durability. Tiles are also often seen in places that are constantly wet like in bathrooms and kitchens. Grouts are found in between of tiles. They are there to join tiles together. Grouts can come in different colors and are more advisable to be a shade or two darker/lighter than the tile color.

Sealers or Stains are products developed to improve a tile and grout color and toughness. They are usually applied after the grout is scrubbed down and applied by a cleaner. Sealers seal the newly applied coating or colorant on a grout, protecting it for another set of years. These products come off in a variety of color that the consumer can choose from.

Cleaners are used to clean a dirty and grimy grout or tile. They are often used with the aid of scrubbing equipments and other cleaning agents. Cleaners usually contain bleachers which effectively wash down dirt and grime. It is advisable to wear protective and tight fitting gloves during the cleaning process to avoid skin burns and irritation. Modern cleaner products are water based and are not harmful when it comes with contact to the skin.
